Becoming familiar with online shopping
can be a challenge
Any
hesitation to experience online
shopping can be put to rest with a few
Do's and Don'ts.
Statistics report that women are now
the majority of internet users and are
responsible for 82.5% of purchasing.
That is a global figure and out of
date even as we report it. So,
women love to shop or it is a
challenge given to her by her family.
Either way she is charged with
controlling her family's fortune and
making wise decisions. There
lies the crux of this activity.
When online shopping became available
it certainly had it's hiccups and
incidents with credit card security,
identity theft and so on which were
well publicized by the media.
What hasn't been publicized by the
media to any extent, is the online
shopping is now a very sophisticated
venue and the above issues have pretty
well been put to rest. Oh sure,
things still happen but quite often it
is caused by the buyer, themselves, as
they will jump on to the Internet
without the proper virus and firewall
protection. That is disaster
waiting to happen. It is not a
case of "if" but "when". If the
proper safeguards are not in place in
your computer - beware. If you don't
have this software talk to your local
retailer and attend to it. Now
.
If you have a dial up
Internet connection rather than
broadband you will experience a much
longer load times for content-rich web
sites and have a considerably slower
online shopping experience. The cost
of high speed connections now have
dropped dramatically so it may be time
to revisit some of the providers.
Remember when just being able to
access the Internet was a big deal –
any way, any way at all? So if you can
get a faster Internet connection it
will eliminate the time you just sit
waiting for something to happen.
Statistics for the
year 2006 of total online shopping was
almost $220,000,000.00. Those
statistics
comprised of a huge amount of people
with a huge amount of trust and
indicates just how much importance
online shopping has gained..
The benefits of online shopping
are very straight forward and
handy shopping tips have emerged.
If
you already know what you are looking
for before you get on the Internet,
that is a big jump in time saving.
However, if you are shopping for
someone else and they seem to have
everything but you still want to
impress them, that is where online
shopping shines. You don't just
have the town you live in to shop you
have the whole world. Before you
get too excited about this, it is a
good idea to check out the shipping
regulations posted on each website.
If the merchant does not ship outside
their country - just move on to
another website featuring the same
item or forget about that item for
this year.

Do online research for items
regardless of whether you are planning
to shop online or go to your local
retailers.
This
will give you a complete product
selection and of course, price
comparisons. You just go to a search
engine, type in the name and model or
part number of the product and
then start surfing. You will get
pages of stores offering what you are
interested in. The more specific you
are the more information you will
get. Life is good.
You will find out more
information about the product, read
about other people's experiences with
the item and come away with a good
handle on the pricing, flexibility,
use and maybe expand your ideas about
it.. It could even save you from
purchasing something that maybe isn't
such a good idea after all.
Review our shopping tips under the
Shopping Tab before you order though.
Another tip; is
throughout the year while you are
surfing the Internet, keep a book
handy with all your Birthdays, Special
Events and of course, Christmas or
similar occasion, with the names of
the folks your are planning to get
gifts for. Microsoft Outlook or some
similar program works really well
too. Just jot down in your book ideas
that might be great for the person of
the occasion you know is coming up.
Also on your “Favorite” or “Book Mark”
site make a title called Shopping and
save whatever websites you have found
something on. That is really handy,
if time has slipped away from you, you
already have a list of sites to work
with.
Did you know that searching or
browsing an online catalog can be
faster than browsing the aisles of a
physical store? When did you last
walk through the whole WalMart store
at one time?. Your answer is probably
never.
Before you make the
decision to finalize your order, also
add any handling charges, shipping
charges and taxes to the item you
want. It just might be cheaper to buy
it locally. You will not find out
these additional charges until you
actually start placing the order, if
you don’t like the total of your
order, back out and DO NOT complete
it. You really have to watch this
part of online shopping. You should
note as well that when ordering, the
URL window should start with “HTTPS”
That “S” is really important as
it means the site is secure and your
personal and credit card information
will be safe.
A way that is gaining
favor with everyone is to shop online
and then go to the store locally and
pick up whatever was ordered. Its
like going to a drive-in and it can
save us from impulse buying.
If you shop online and
work too, it might make sense to
arrange delivery to your work address
or to a family member’s address and
avoid the necessity of having to be at
home for delivery of your order.
Well
there you have it. We hope you
feel comfortable and secure now when
you do your shopping on the Internet.
