Our Values

We can help our residents’ decision to move to a care home an easy one by providing clear guidance and a compelling, all-inclusive package.

  • All-Inclusive Care Packages: Having everything included in one, easy-to-understand weekly fee is the foundation of our ethos at Portobello Place. By removing the stress associated with personal bookkeeping, we let our residents and their families focus on what is important – spending quality time with each other, engaging with new friends and being a part of a varied and stimulating community. From daily meals to entertainment to wellbeing, everything is taken care of.
  • An expert team of caring individuals: We care about people; our residents, their friends and relatives and our staff. All of our employees are hand-picked for their dedication to their role, a naturally compassionate nature and for being the best in the business. We don’t just look at the carers, we are talking about the chefs, our activities manager, hospitality staff and even an artist-in-residence. The result is a varied programme of stimulating activity, run by people who love what they do, in a warm and supportive environment, 365 days a year.

James Foley

My name is James Foley I am the Maintenance Manager

My background is in the building trade and I started out as an apprentice carpenter and worked in this trade for some years. I then embarked on a career change and joined the ambulance patient transport service as an ambulance care assistant for the NHS. I loved working for them but the opportunity came up to put all my skills to use with Berkley Care as a Maintenance Manager.

My role here is very rewarding and some days challenging as there never seems to be enough hours in the day to achieve everything, however, the smile on a residents face when you can sort any issues they have within their home makes every day worth getting out of bed for. It gives me an enormous amount of pride that the residents know they are important and I can make their stay here as comfortable as possible.

Technology and care homes

Harnessing the power of technology is something that we always keen to do if it improves our services, and anything that will add to the lives of our residents is always looked at with open eyes and a keen ear. Whether it is the digitisation of our care plans and staff training, to the acoustic and pressure monitoring of residents’ rooms – if it helps us provide better services and greater stimulation to our residents then we will always look at what is on offer.

Conversation, stimulation and community

Conversation, stimulation and community

Portobello Place is a community-minded home, knowing that social interaction with friends, family and new people of all ages keeps the mind active and promotes wellbeing. Our residents are always able to enjoy new ways of communicating, whether it’s in one of our online Zoom quizzes, a spot of karaoke to the more traditional coffee mornings and baby sessions.

Ensuring residents are able to meet in person

Our pioneering spirit and determination to enable our residents was on show during the difficult year endured by all in 2020. We adopted new strategies very early on in the year to enable the continuity of communication between our residents and their families and have tried to evolve these as the situation changes.

Providing better care through Technology

From electronic care planning and acoustic monitoring to high-speed internet connection on-demand TV, our care home always moves with the times if it’s for the benefit of our residents.
